GENERAL DESCRIPTION: An acrylic-modified waterproofing system comprising of a combined saturator/sealer/top coat and reinforcing polyester fabric. Prevents water ingress into roofs, parapet capping and masonry walls. Seals cracks and holes where leaks may occur. Water based paint allows application to damp surfaces and ease of clean-up. Can be used to treat difficult areas and joints where conventional waterproofing cannot be applied.

USES: Waterproofing of properly prepared parapet wall capping, flashings and joints. Sealing of roofs and exterior masonry, plastered walls. Flashings. Waterproofing of flat roofs (e.g. concrete, IBR-zinc sheeting). Waterproofing of asphalt, malthoid & roofing felt covered roofs. Localised sealing of joints, fastener heads etc. Waterproofing of timber and chipboard roofs. See Standard Application Procedure overleaf.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

PHYSICAL FORM: Paint: non-flammable, water-based viscous coloured fluid. Fabric: uncoloured needle-punched polyester cloth (BIDUM)

COLOUR: Red, Grey, Black, Terracotta, White, Green

FINISH: Low Sheen

SPREADING RATE: Approximately 2 m² per litre for the complete system

POLYMER TYPE: Modified flexible acrylic latex with exceptionally low water uptake

PIGMENTS & FILLERS: Non-toxic, weather resistant types. Contains mica for stretch and flexibility

DRYING PROPERTIES: Surface or touch-dry: within 1hour

RECOATING TIME: 4 hours depending on conditions during drying

FLASH POINT: Not flammable in liquid form

PACKAGING: 5L

THINNING: Add small amount of water to achieve desired consistency

CLEANING: All equipment should be cleaned with water before the product has cured. Once cured the product can only be mechanically removed

APPLICATION METHOD: Supplied in two parts (a powder and a liquid) which have to be mixed with water until a lump free consistency is achieved, if the mixture is too stiff small amounts of water can be added until the desired consistency is achieved. Continue mixing during application to ensure no settling. Apply RB10 Cement Sealer to a damp substrate with a block brush or soft broom ensuring even coverage and allow to cure.

PRINCIPAL CHARACTERISTICS: Maintains membrane integrity at all normal ambient temperatures (-10°C – + 80°C). Resists growth of mould & fungus, tough and flexible. Low density system: does not add excess weight to structures. Superb adhesion to properly prepared surfaces. Applicable to less accessible locations, moulds to sharp & intricate contours. Resistant to ultra-violet light and African weather conditions. Can be used as finishing coat to give a medium sheen appearance May be over-coated with Roof Paint to provide uniform colour with roofs. RB10 Flex-e-proof is non-flammable and equipment may be cleaned using water.

REINFORCING FABRIC

PHYSICAL FORM: Needle punched polyester Bidim fabric

AVAILABLE SIZE: Rolls of various widths from 75mm up to 1m Screw patches (80mm diameter).

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

GENERAL: Versatile high performance waterproofing system comprising of RB10 Flex-e-proof (all-in-one water-based primer, saturator and finishing coating compound) and a needle-punched polyester reinforcement fabric (Bidum). The system forms a watertight membrane moulded to the contours of the substrate. It can also be used to seal joints and bridge cracks.

STANDARD APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1. Surface preparation: Surfaces must be clean, sound and free from loose materials. Notes: a) Metal surfaces must be primed with metal primer. b) Masonry surfaces may be friable: treat these with bonding liquid before continuing to ensure surface is sound before applying the RB10 Flex-e-proof system.

2. Prime with RB10 Flex-e-proof: Apply one coat undiluted to prepared surface.

3. Bedding: Apply one coat, embed fabric into wet paint, press down well.

4. Saturation: Apply one coat over embedded fabric to saturate.

5. Finishing: Apply two coats to ensure uniform appearance

Notes: a) If the coating system becomes waterlogged during the process after the bedding step due to rain, it MUST be allowed to dry out fully before proceeding.

b) A Roof Paint may be used for the final coating if required.

OVERALL COVERAGE RATE:

Depends on the surface being treated. An approximate guideline is as follows: RB10 Flex-e-proof: 2m² per litre (total system) Reinforcing fabric: use plan width + 10% (to allow 50mm overlapping between layers).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

1. Suggested specification clause for tender and other documents: Prepare and apply RB10 Flex-e-proof Waterproofing system to the approved finishing colour in accordance with the method given in this specification sheet and using materials supplied by RB10 Paints. Such work is to be undertaken by a specialistwaterproofing contractor approved by the specifier and RB10 Paints.

2. All information contained in this document is given in good faith and is based on experience and field-testing. However, no guarantee is given or implied as conditions such as handling and application are beyond the control of RB10 Paints.

SPECIFIC APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Concrete Roofing (New): Inspect condition of screeding: repair if necessary. Scrape off loose materials from surface and sweep clean. Carry out Standard Application Procedure.

Roofs previously waterproofed with asphalt, malthoid or roofing felt: Remove all loose materials from surface, clean out cracks. Fill the cracks using Crack filler. Apply RB10 Flex-e-proof Primer for step 2 of Standard Application Procedure. Carry out remaining steps of Standard Application Procedure.

Fibre-cement roofing: Clean down thoroughly using water and wire brush. Treat fungal or algal growths with fungicidal wash or household bleach diluted 25% with water. Allow to dry then rinse thoroughly. Spot prime metal fasteners (screw/nail heads) with metal primer. Treat cracks by applying RB10 Flex-e-proof diluted 20% with water & allow to dry. Then apply RB10 Flex-e-proof undiluted and embed a strip if reinforcing fabric into the sealer and allow to dry. Carry out Standard Application Procedure over entire roof area.

Galvanized Iron Roofing: Clean down thoroughly using water and wire brush. Sand down red-rusted areas to bare metal and dust off. Then apply RB10 Steel Clean to remove surface contaminants (oils, contamination etc.). Rinse thoroughly. Spot-prime all nail & screw heads with metal primer. Seal any holes and open joints by applying RB10 Flex-e-proof undiluted followed by embedding reinforcing fabric into the wet sealer. Allow sealer to dry. Carry out Standard Application Procedure to the patched areas. Apply RB10 Flex-e-proof or Roof paint over the roof area to provide a uniform appearance.

New Timber Roofs: Ensure the timber is fully dry before starting. Apply Pink Wood Primer in place of the Priming stage of the Standard Procedure.

Flashings: Carry out the Standard Application Procedure, but take care that the edges of the reinforcing fabric are not exposed (i.e. extend the application of RB10 Flex-e-proof beyond the edges of the fabric).

Parapet Wall Capping: Carry out the Standard Application Procedure. Ensuring that the waterproofing system extends over the parapet capping to below the level of the roof on the outside and onto the roof surface on the inside.

Expansion Joints: These are normally sealed using polysulphide or polyurethane sealants. Sometimes a foam insert is also used to reduce the volume of sealant required. The RB10 Flex-e-proof system may be applied over expansion joints but may not be as effective as the above sealants. A double application of the system is suggested to provide increased strength.

General: Different surfaces require different preparations before applying the RB10 Flex-e-proof Waterproofing System. Contact a RB10 Paints Sales Representative or the factory for further Technical Advice.

HEALTH & SAFETY: Keep paint away from children. Never smoke, drink or eat while painting. Wear protective overalls, gloves and goggles. If accidental contact with skin should occur, wash immediately with clean water. Harmful if swallowed. Do not induce vomiting. Consult your doctor. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. Store in a cool, dry place out of the sun.
