GENERAL DESCRIPTION: An acidic degreasing fluid for removing surface oxidation, oils and greases from galvanized steel and mild steel. Also designed for etching and cleaning the surface of granno and concrete.
USES: Preparing new and oxidised galvanised steel surfaces for painting. Removing rust from mild steel (NB heavily rusted surfaces may require multiple applications). Cleaning of granno and concrete surfaces (using a 1 + 5 water dilution).
FEATURES & BENEFITS:
- Acid degreasing fluid, removes oxidation, oils and grease
- Prevents rust
- Etching and cleaning
PHYSICAL FORM: Low viscosity fluid with characteristic odour
COLOUR: Water White
FINISH: Does not form a film
SPREADING RATE: Approximately 10 m² per litre per application
COMPOSITION: Inorganic acid, detergent and degreasing solvents
DRYING PROPERTIES: Approximately 5 minutes
FLASH POINT: > 42°C (Abel Closed Cup method)
PACKAGING: 1L & 5L
THINNING: Dilute 1 part cleaner to 5 parts water for cleaning granno and concrete
CLEANING: Equipment is readily cleaned using water. Do not allow equipment to stand in cleaner for long periods of time as the acid content may cause damage
APPLICATION METHOD: Supplied ready-for-use using a brush or roller. May be sprayed but special care must be taken to prevent skin, eye or mouth contact as well as ingestion, due to the acidic nature of the product
Zinc Surfaces (Galvanised Steel): Apply RB10 Steel Clean to the surface using a brush or roller. Cover an area of up to 4m² at a time to prevent the cleaner standing for an excessive time period. This can cause the protective zinc metal layer to be dissolved. Allow the cleaner to remain in contact with the surface for no longer than 5 minutes then rinse off with clean water and a broom. Apply a second rinse to ensure all traces of cleaner are removed and allow the surface to dry. Prime the surface within 4 hours using a RB10 primer for optimum corrosion and coating life.
Mild Steel Surfaces: Apply RB10 Steel Clean as described above. If the steel is heavily rusted, several applications may be required together with mechanical abrasion using abrasive pads (e.g. Scotchbrite® or emery paper). To prevent flash rusting of the de-rusted surface, it is suggested that it is rinsed with clean water containing 5% household ammonia solution.
Granno or Concrete surfaces: Dilute RB10 Steel Clean 1 part + 5 parts water before applying as described above. The cleaner will immediately react with the surface to form bubbles. Rinse thoroughly several times to remove all traces of cleaner. Note: RB10 Steel clean etches the surface of these materials and increases the porosity and friability. It is highly recommended that the surface is properly sealed before applying a finishing coat.
DO NOT PAINT:
- IF THE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 10° C OR ABOVE 35° C
- IF THE SURFACE IS DAMP (MOISTURE READING ABOVE 15%)
- IF IT IS RAINING OR RAIN IS FORECAST
- BEFORE 9H00 AND AFTER 16H00 IN THE WINTER
HEALTH & SAFETY: Keep paint away from children. Never smoke, drink or eat while painting. Wear protective overalls, gloves and goggles. If accidental contact with skin should occur, wash immediately with clean water. Harmful if swallowed. Do not induce vomiting. Consult your doctor. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying. Store in a cool, dry place out of the sun.
